
MAGIC & VINE GROWTH - BREAKDOWN
I was responsible for the assets(trees, vines), layout, animation, FX (magic, particles, vine growth), lighting, rendering, and compositing.
For this project, I began by creating a circle on the ground around the character. I identified the top point of the character’s raised hand and used POPs to simulate particles from the point on the hand to points on the circle. I generated lines based on the particles, added noise to these lines, and controlled their growing speed to create a magical flow effect.
To create the green magic lines swirling around the character, I drew curves from the ground around the character to the character’s body. Then I use POPs to emit particles along these curves, so the particles flowed naturally from the ground up to the character.
For the vine growth effect, I emitted particles from the points on the ground circle using POPs, added trailing behavior with noise, and then generated lines based on the particle trails. I also created vines growing on the sculpture by adjusting the normal of the points on sculptures' surface to point upward. I then emitted particles that moved along these normal and generated growth lines from their motion.
Green floating particles were emitted from the points along the vines to enhance the magical atmosphere. To animate the leaf growth, I used a Bend node and instanced leaves onto the vine points. I controlled their animation offset using a Time Shift node combined with a For-Each loop.
Finally, I composited all layers in Nuke and handled lighting adjustments, color grading, glowing magic effects, depth of field, and the final look of the scene.
